When it comes to creating the right feel for your bedroom, color is key. Finding the perfect paint colors to turn your bedroom into a personal retreat is easy if you keep some tips in mind.
The same goes for purple, a favorite of teen and tween girls: that color stimulates brain activity, so it's a good choice if your child studies in their room. A child's bedroom is a great place to stray from traditional colors, so let your child use his or her creativity to create their perfect space.
You'll also want to consider whether you want to paint your walls in solid colors or include patterns. Stripes, stencil patterns, sponge painting and textures can add a touch of style to any bedroom. Consider a colorful mural in a childvs room for a personal touch. Smaller patterns lend themselves to a more traditional look; larger geometric patterns, bold stripes and sweeps are compatible with a more contemporary look. For a truly unique look consider a pattern or mural on the bedroom ceiling, or consider painting your ceiling the same shade as your walls. Some interior designers recommend ordering your ceiling paint with reduced colorant so the ceiling's color saturation will be about half the strength of your wall paint.
The hidden gems in this design are the custom night stands that I had made by my carpenter. The couple loved the dresser for this space and wanted a similar but different look for the night stands. So we kept the same shape, added appliqués to the drawer fronts, and painted the pair with black lacquer. After that, we popped on fancy mother of pearl knobs!
