Layering rugs is a good way to texture in your spaces to the next level. Rugs can allow you section off different spaces in open floor plans, but also give you the opportunity to create movement for less flexible floorplans. Layering smaller rugs over a larger one separates multiple areas in one room.
Choose furnishings with interesting finishes that add to the overall character of the home. Go for unique woods such as anigre, African Bubunga, or wenge; or choose stone materials and mix in onyx or unusual marbles.
A layered, thoughtful mix of materials and textures will give your space a custom-designed, luxurious look. Mix metals, glass, wood, a variety of textiles, and leather items to create a dynamic, inviting space. Carefully select each piece to suit your budget and let your room come together naturally.
Don’t be afraid to take a bolder and more unusual approach. Try using sheepskin or cowhide for decorative touches, like table runners, rugs, or even throws. Put exotic wall hangings up, or find ethnic rugs to use. Textured wall paper on an accent wall can lend plenty of texture to a space.
