We’ve already discussed the popularity of neutral colours for cabinetry and benchtops but there is also a trend towards adding a point of difference through statement features in the kitchen. This could be through bold colours or interesting patterns in the splashbacks or the use of colourful vases or floral arrangements. Mirrored splashbacks are another popular feature which has the added advantage of adding the feeling of space.
After the removal of two main walls, there were several rooms that needed to be moved around, including the original kitchen, which was shifted out of its separate-room location and into the existing lounge. The old kitchen area was then transformed into a study.
Absolutely not! Another great benefit to a glass splashback is the ease with which they are maintained. Being a smooth surface, oil splashes or spills from your cooking area can be easily wiped off with a simple damp soft cloth, and a standard glass cleaner such as Windex if necessary. It’s always best to use a clean cloth, rather than your sink sponge, as your sponge may have absorbed oils that may smear across the splashback. Glass splashbacks are much more user-friendly than tiled splashbacks, as it can be difficult to remove oil and residues from the grout lines in a tiled space without damaging or discolouring the grout.
One of the many reasons that glass splashbacks are a popular choice is down to how hardy they are. It is very difficult to break toughened glass – in fact, it’s quite a process to even attempt to break one! Strong force on the front of the splashback itself will not cause it to break. Heat applied to the glass will also not have any effect on it. The only way toughened glass can be broken is to hit it with excessive force on a certain edge, which once installed is usually protected by surrounding cabinetry or walls. Once broken, it will not explode into dangerous shards, but rather cube-like pieces which are safer to handle.
